Neumorphism + Glassmorphism Experiment

Finance / UI Kit

I've created a simple flow for a bank app to test out some ideas for Neumorphism trend in UI recently.

What exactly is Neumorphism, you may be wondering. Let's find out! 😍

Below is a video demonstrating the flow of the bank app. The link to the figma prototype and file would be provided at the end of this page.

To simply put, Neumorphism is often understood as soft UI. Well, this is probably the core value of this style that I can comprehend and apply thoroughly too, which means that whenever I created a button or a text field following this style, I would add/remove inner/outer shadows constantly to test which combination is the smoothest BUT still accessible, at least to someone with terrible eyesight like me.

People and seniors in UI industry keep telling us that this style isn't gonna work due to its inaccessibility to users with vision problems. That's what I thought when I first saw this style as well. However, I do think that there're some exceptions to the implementation of this without causing too much hassle to users.

An example I thought of while doing this small project is how museums and galleries can use this style for their branding and web/apps. When I visited some museums abroad, they always provided audio guides with or without some fee. Some exhibitions are even more technologically advanced when they offer 3D walk-throughs throughout their entire museums so that:

1. Visitors know where they are, or which collections they are at.

2. Even if I don't have the chance to get to see the place in person, I still can somehow experience it.

Right, so visitors with visual impairment are perfectly accommodated with the audio guide provided in the app, as long as the app complies with screen-reader guidelines. Then, the visual part of the app could serve as a gateway to browse artworks. It would be a strategic and subtle way for exhibitions/museums/galleries to shape their brands in user's mind.

Overall, I really enjoyed the process creating this style, it was fun with all of the softness and shadows. It hurt my eyes sometimes but in a good way :).

Enough with the talking, here is the little Design System I've created to test out with the bank app prototype.
